Goodie Whemper's Definitive Guide To Writing New Tricks

Using Thee Hag Stone

Thee large round hag stone is of great benefit when makin' up a new Trick. I do notte mean thee small stones wot can be found by looking carefully near streams and tree Crossings, but thee large hag stones wot are more rare. It must be a large hag stone, of corsue, an' not some other kind of stone, tho' it may be large, such as a pebble, thee Standing Stone, thee Ramtops or Copperhead Mountain. You may know a hag stone by thee hole through thee middle. Thee smaller stones have only rough holes wot may be to one side or thee other. This is not thee right kind of stone. Thee proper sort of large stones may be found in streams also but have notte been found at Crossings; they are found on occasion in Shoppes.

Using thee large round hag stone, any witch can make up a new Trick. She must first make friends with thee stone, or it will notte pay her any mind. She must then convince thee stone to learn a Trick, which involves telling thee stone thee name of thee Trick. That is thee Easy Parte. Oh, and once she has convinced thee stone, she may listen to thee stone at any time to hear thee name, much like thee smaller hag stones. She may also listen to thee Trick itself, whereupon it will tell her all thee things it knows if it feels like doing so.

Once thee stone agrees to learn a Trick, thee witch must convince it of everything she wants it to Say and Do at each stage, an' tell it wot she will Say and Do also. This sometimes takes a lot of Convincing as both thee stones and tricks can be uncooperative.
