Discworld Newbie Help

Shops

Description

There are two standard types of shops on Discworld: general shops and item shops. While both have objects for sale for your consuming pleasure, they work in very different ways.

"help here" in a shop will explain what type it is, and list the commands you can use there.

General shops

General stores are the only shops that will buy items from you. This means that a general shop could have just about anything in its inventory, although some will still be themed.

Keep in mind that general shops are run by shrewd shopkeepers, who will pay you less for the item than it is worth. This means that, while a general shop is still a good place for selling random items you have found on your travels, you will lose money buying and selling back.

Item shops

Item shops are usually specialty shops, which could sell anything from food to clothing to furniture. Most importantly, they won't buy anything from you.

Other information

There are other ways to buy (and sell) items than the two mentioned shops, but you will probably use them a lot less: for example, there are shops run by players, NPCs who sell items and even some special NPCs who will buy from you. Usually, there is a help file to tell you how to use them.
