Name
Playing Fair - Keeping it fun for everyone!
Like any community, Discworld has a number of rules and laws that help keep the game enjoyable for everyone.
Administration Rules
The most important rules to be aware of are the game rules. These are the rules that greeted you when you first arrived on Discworld. They can be reviewed by typing "help rules" at any time.
Breaking the admin rules often results in the suspension and sometimes even deletion of your character. Ignorance of the rules is never accepted as an excuse so be sure you understand them.
If you aren't sure if something will violate the rules or not, contact a liaison. They can be found by typing "liaisons".
Regional Laws
Apart from the real rules, some regions on Discworld have their own legal system and punishments for daily, more common crimes, like theft, murder and miming.
The most important rules you want to be aware of are:
- | The Ankh-Morpork Watchmen will try to arrest and imprison you for fighting, murder, miming, etcetera when they are in the room.
- | The priests in Djelibeybi will throw you into the crocodile pit for killing a cat or priest (whether you were seen or not!).
- | The Imperial Guards on the Counterweight Continent will attempt to seize your weapons if you aren't carrying the proper permit. (These Guards are lenient towards new players of Agatean origin.) |
Council Laws
A few cities have player-run councils with their own laws to regulate play. If you break one of these laws, you may be charged and judged by the council, who may sentence you to a fine, banishment or even death.
Generally, if you play nice you won't get in trouble with the councils, but for a list of current laws, see http://discworld.atuin.net/lpc/secure/nomic_rules.c
Etiquette
Beyond the written laws, as in any society there are some unwritten rules; generally thought of as common courtesy. The most important of these "rules" are:
- | Do not attack non-player characters that someone else is fighting.
- | Do not get items from corpses that have been killed by someone else (without their permission).
- | Do not kill shopkeepers.
- | Do not use other people's portals (magic doors) without their permission.
- | If you make arrangements for another player to help you, remember to pay them as agreed or thank them nicely! |
