Discworld Player Help

Transport

Introduction

Life is funny. One minute you're astride the roof of the pub, swathed
in the local flag, shouting "Top of the world, Ma!" loud enough to
ring off distant hills. The next, you're contemplating the exquisite
masonry of the local prison cell. It's at times like this a player
starts contemplating travel.

Discworld provides many ways for players to move around. Witches can
fly on broomsticks. Priests can plead with their god for a helping
hand. Anyone with a deep knowledge of the arcane can teleport
themselves from place to place. While such methods can be fun and
fast, they're not open to everyone. To avoid the swarms of rampaging
discrimination lawyers, Discworld has several other methods for
travelling, which are discussed below.

Carriages

Discworld's cities and villages are linked by a network of carriages.
Each carriage runs through a certain route, stopping at a fixed set of
points along the way. At these points, you can board the carriage.
Each point will have a note displaying the list of stops visited by
the carriage. You can read this note to see if the carriage is going
to interesting places.

As the carriage moves along its path, the driver will announce
upcoming stops. When the carriage has arrived at the stop you desire,
simply exit it.

Note that carriages are a safe way to travel through dangerous
terrain. It is possible for aggressive NPCs to enter at carriage
stops, although this is rare.

Example

This is a carriage stop. It has a very short description. It is
obviously made up.
It is a very warm Seedtime's morning with almost no wind and a beautifully clear sky.
There are three obvious exits:
north, south and enter intercontinental express carriage.
The Intercontinental Express Carriage is waiting here and a wooden pole with a maroon note attached to it is trying to be noticed.

>read note

You read the Intercontinental Express table:
Written in bold letters:

The Intercontinental Express route:
Ankh-Morpork
Sto Lat
Lancre Town
Genua
Lancre Town
Sto Lat
Ankh-Morpork
and back to Djelibeybi.

> enter intercontinental express carriage
You climb aboard the carriage.

This is the inside of a tall carriage. It runs along the
Intercontinental Express route, stopping at various points to let people on or
off. There is a small window in each wall.
There is one obvious exit: leave carriage.
A bell is hanging here.
The Intercontinental Express Carriage leaves the current stop.

The Intercontinental Express Carriage comes to a grinding halt.
The Intercontinental Express Carriage has arrived at Ankh-Morpork.
The Intercontinental Express Carriage's next stop is Sto Lat.

This is a second fake carriage stop.
It is a cold spindlewinter's morning with a steady breeze and dense cloud cover.
There are five obvious exits: south, east, west, northeast and enter
intercontinental express carriage.
