Name
Getting Help - For when you need a little help!
Description
There is a lot of helpful information available on Discworld MUD, as there are many things to discover and experience! The help you will find can take a few different forms, mostly as help files or directly from other players. Below is some information on the ways you can seek help.
Help System
The help system on Discworld covers many different topics. Most important concepts have help files associated with them, and many help files will contain references to other help files.
To access a help file you type "help X" (example: "help clothing"). "Help here" help files are attached to specific rooms, while a number of help files are available to you anywhere on Discworld. Many are listed in "help concepts" (for a list of topics) and "help command_list" (for a list of commands).
If you try to view a help file for a topic that doesn't have one, an alternative help file will be suggested to you.
Even More Help
As mentioned previously, many help files will contain pointers to other help files that may be relevant to the topic or concept you're seeking help on. These are located at the bottom of the help file if they're defined, under the heading, "See Also". Here you just use the help command as you would with any other help file.
At the end of this help file you will find an example of "See Also", with a list of other important help files.
Helpful People
Sometimes a help file just isn't enough to answer your questions, in which case there are people who can come to your aid.
The newbie channel is the first place you should look for help if you can't find the answer anywhere else. New characters have access to this channel for the first 18 hours of age, and to talk on the newbie channel you type "newbie <text>" (example: "newbie Hello!"). The only people who have access to the newbie channel are other newbies, the newbie helpers, liaisons and a few other creators (often called Gods on other MUDs) who wish to be of assistance to new characters.
Once you have a talker, you can ask for help on the talker channels too. The best choice for asking help is usually your guild channel.
Newbie helpers are experienced players who have knowledge about Discworld and are prepared to help newer players if they need some assistance. There are helpers from each guild, but all newbie helpers should be able to help you to some extent, especially on more general questions. To see a list of the currently online newbie helpers, type "helpers".
Liaisons are creators on Discworld who exist to offer help to players. To see a list of the currently online liaisons type "liaison". If you need to talk to one of them, send them a "tell" (read "help tell" for more information).
Conclusion
To summarise: there are many ways to get help on Discworld, through help files, other players, and through creators (especially liaisons)! Help files are easy to access and important to read, but if you don't find what you are looking for, there are people who are knowledgeable and experienced enough with Discworld MUD who will be able to help you, so just ask!
