Name
Discworld Playtester Applications
This file documents both the ptapplications and ptesters commands, and the process for the recruitment of playtesters, including the roles of both domain creators and ptexecs.
Syntax
The ptapplications command has different syntaxes depending on your position in the domain. To make my life easier, they're all documented here, however you may not have access to all of them. Syntaxes available to domain creators are also available to all Lords, those available to execs are also available to domain creators, and those available to PTs are also available to execs. ptapplications can be abbreviated to ptapp.
ptapplications list Show current applications (PT)
ptapplications list text Ditto as text (PT)

ptapplications delete <applicant> <reason> Delete an application (Cre)
ptapplications shortlist <applicant> Shortlist for hiring (Cre)
ptapplications ready <applicant> Mark for Interview (Cre)
Additionally, the following ptesters commands are available to all creators, although normally they would only be used by domain creators:
ptesters investigate <applicant> Mark for Interview
ptesters shortlist <applicant> Shortlist for hiring
ptesters add <name> Recruit a PT
ptesters delete <applicant> Delete an application
Description
The ptapplications command will allow you to query the status of playtester applications. If you're an Exec or a domain creator, it also allows you to view additional detail about the applicant, and to progress the application throughthe various stages.
'ptapplications expedite <applicant> for <reason>' is used by the execs to add a fast track applicant, and duplicates the expedite command in the PT interview room.
'ptapplications list' will give a list of who has applied, how many vouches they have received, and whether their application is on time or late.
'ptapplications list text' provides the same information in text form.
'ptapplications playerinfo <applicant>' is used by the execs to review a summary of discipline events for an applicant.
'ptapplications comments' is used by the domain creators to see a summary of which applications have received comments. These are comments made using the "comment <name>" command.
'ptapplications comments for <string>' is used by the domain creators to see the comments made about a specific applicant.
'ptapplications ready <applicant>' is used by the domain creators to mark an applicant for interview.
'ptapplications shortlist <applicant>' is used by the domain creators to mark an applicant for recruitment.
'ptapplications add <word>' is used by the PT Execs to recruit a PT once they have been marked for recruitment.
In addition:
'ptapplications delete <applicant> <reason>' is used by the domain creators to remove an applicant from the process.

The Playtester Application & Recruitment Process
Reference to PT Executives includes Senior Playtesters. The difference in the two roles is thus:
PT Executives have a responsibility to progress applications. PT Executive is a position awarded following application and interview. A PT Executive has usually applied to become involved in the administration of the domain, including the recruitment of playtesters. Therefore, upon being appointed to this position, a PT Executive is expected to engage in the recruitment process.
Senior Playtesters may choose to progress applications. Senior Playtester is a position that is awarded by the domain administration in recognition of the contributions made over time by a playtester, taking into account various other matters. Senior Playtesters are not expected to become part of the core domain administration, however they may optionally choose to get involved in the recruitment process.
1) Applicant completes an application using the apply command:
apply as playtester
2) Applicant's vouchees vouch for applicant:
apply vouch for <name> as <position>
where <position> is: playtester
3) Application is posted to the Playtesters board once sufficient vouches are received. Playtesters and creators may now comment on the application:
comment name
This puts you into an editor.
4) At least a week to allow for comments, but hopefully no more than 15 days after the application is posted, PT Executives and Domain creators should have a brief discussion as to whether they feel the player is likely to be suitable.
Domain creators can review the comments:
ptapp comments for <string>
Domain creators should review the player's complete playerinfo:
playerinfo <playername> interleaved
PT Executives can review a summary of certain playerinfo events:
ptapp playerinfo <applicant>
Provided there are no obvious reasons to reject the application at this stage, a domain creator will mark the applicant as ready for interview using either of the commands:
ptapp ready <applicant>
ptest investigate <word>
5) The Interview
The interview room may be reached as follows:
goto mavis
south
east
In the interview room you can get a summary of a player's application state:
summary for <string>
A PT Executive will now carry out the interview using the PT Palace interview room:
help here
summon <string>
show movie
interview <player>
end interview
unsummon <string>
You may also invite applicants to try out the PT Obstacle Course (west and south from the interview room).
The interviewer can read the comments for the applicant from the interview room:
view comments for <string>
Once the interview has concluded, PT Execs and domain creators can review the interview in the interview room:
view interview for <string>
6) Post Interview
PT Executives and Domain Creators will review the interview and have a discussion as to whether the applicant is felt to be suitable. Ideally this should occur within a week of the interview.
If an applicant is to be rejected, a Domain Creator or PT Executive will draft a mail explaining the reasons for the rejection.
If an applicant is to be accepted, a Domain Creator will mark them for hiring using either of the commands:
ptapp shortlist <applicant>
ptest shortlist <word>
This will enable a PT Executive to recruit and induct them using the add command:
ptapp add <word>
The player may now need to su.
During the induction, the PT Executive will run through several issues including the jumps command, PT confidentiality, protection, a PT death etc.
Fast-Track Applications
Occasionally a Playtester may resign or be automatically removed for idleness when real life commitments get in the way of playtesting. In such cases, the Playtester may apply under a fast track process by mailing the PT Execs mailing list stating their wish to rejoin the domain, and confirming that the condition that led to their removal or resignation is no longer a problem.
If the PT Execs agree that the applicant should be fast tracked, an exec may use the expedite command in the interview room or the 'ptapp expedite' syntax to initiate the fast track process. The reason given to the expedite command will be posted to the playtesters board.
Following a period of at least a week for comments, the PT Execs will then make a suggestion to the domain creators as to whether the applicant should be readmitted under fast track, asked to make a full application or rejected.
