The Widdersheens of Sto Lat are a long-standing, faintly odd family known for producing clockmakers, map-tinkerers, minor civil servants, and the occasional eccentric. They pride themselves on being “respectably unremarkable” — which is difficult, considering several of them have been declared legally dead before reappearing at family dinners. Their townhouse is filled with ticking, whirring, and things best left unlabeled, and family reunions often include charts, diagrams, and small explosions. While most Widdersheens prefer quiet, structured lives, they treat Locus — with his flamboyant robes, traveling lifestyle, and career in illusion — like an exotic relative from a foreign land… even when he’s sitting at the kitchen table. The family motto: “Against the Turn, Ever Forward.” (Interpretation varies. So do directions.)
