Disconnection Detection, posted on Sat Aug 10 13:21:27 2024

Hello all,

We are aware that there is a problem where players repeatedly get disconnected, and are discussing solutions with the ISP.

For the time being, we have implemented some functionality to protect players from dying in combat when a disconnect is detected by marking them as unconscious. This code is still in beta, and therefore may still have some flaws, but we are rolling it out now because we hope that it will help you.

If you would rather not have this code apply to you, please contact a liaison, and they will mark you as excluded for being knocked unconscious.

Pit.

P.S. Since you may be wondering how this works: if the code detects that a disconnect event is happening, then *almost* everyone is marked as unconscious, as are any owned creatures (such as pets, fruitbats and horses) in the room with them. The exception are players who currently have commands queued: they will only be marked as unconscious after the queue ends, so that if you for instance have "staunch bleeding" or "remove bronze helmet" queued, this will still go through. When you reconnect, you (and any owned creatures in the room) will regain consciousness within a second. If you never lose your link, then just send any command to unidle, and you will regain consciousness within 5 seconds.
