(Answer) (Category) Discworld Faq-O-Matic : (Category) Getting Around. :
How can I get to <insert location here> ?
There are loads of ways of working out where a specific place is and getting to it. The simplest way is probably to use one of the maps that are available on the Web. Several maps are linked to from the Atlases section of this website.

Secondly, you can ask a character in the game to take you there. For example, in Ankh-Morpork there are Street Urchins who can be persuaded to take you to a list of places. If you are polite, you may be able to ask another player to help you out, either by using 'say' or your talker (see help talker). In fact, there are even clubs of players dedicated to taking people to places they want to go (refer taxi, for example) though they will normally charge for their services.

Finally, nothing beats old-fashioned exploring. There are few ways better for getting to know an area than to make a map of it yourself.

If you are looking for locations for a quest, be aware that they may not be marked on the maps and players may not tell you where they are or transport you. This is deliberate, since quests that require you to travel round the MUD are normally intended to get you to explore for yourself. If you ask nicely, some players may give you friendly hints.

Ankh-Morpork street urchins will not take you anywhere, but they will give directions if asked politely and correctly.
The Rickshaw drivers in Bes Pelargic will drive you about if you sit down in them properly and give clear directions, the urchins in Bes Pelargic are no help.
There are a number of carriage routes within Ankh-Morpork and also between various cities and villages from Djelibeybi to Genua. These offer a safe and free means of transport across the vast tracts of the Disc. They also take forever.
If you are travelling any serious distance and don't want to walk, hire a taxi. They even offer free transport for the very, very young. http://www.geocities.com/dwtaxi
