Discworld command help

mock

Name

mock - Mock someone in an attempt to improve his performance

Syntax

mock <person> <action> by saying <something scathing>
mock group <action> by saying <something scathing>
mock <object> by saying <something scathing>

Description

Doyennes of scathing mockery, witches are able to badger people into outdoing themselves by criticising their attempts at certain things. To do this, the witch must first watch the subject with a critical eye, then point out the flaws in his technique. Sarcasm is a necessary ingredient of successful mockery, and citing various occasions on which other people have out performed the subject always helps. Mocking others costs the witch 25 gp for the attempt plus 25 gp per person mocked.

Witches may also relieve objects of their delusions of grandeur by mocking their illusions.

NB: Interested parties, i.e. witches, may listen to what their sister hags are up to by turning on 'mockery' informs.

Example

> mock group casting by saying Black Aliss could cast a spell today
an' make a cottage fall on yer head Tuesday past. Now that was
casting!

You exclaim loudly: You lot call that casting? Black Aliss could cast
a spell today and make a cottage fall on yer head Tuesday past. Now
that was casting!

Tannah and Gruper look determined to try harder.

> mock ring by saying Ha! That'll be the day.

You loudly say: You call yerself a talisman, you silly little gold ring? Ha! That'll be the day.

The octarine shadow around the gold ring fades a little bit.
The gold ring deflates sadly as its illusions of being a talisman are shattered.
